Cook's general conference talk Deep and Lasting Conversion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (after President Nelson's two-hour meeting block announcement), "To help members prepare for the Sabbath, some wards already send an informative email, text, or social media message midweek. In view of this adjustment, we strongly recommend this type of communication. These invitations will remind the members of the Sunday meeting schedule for that week, including the upcoming class lesson topic, and support continuing gospel conversation at home."

Personal Calendar: Synchronize your personal calendar with ward and stake calendar events

You can automatically synchronize the events from your ward and stake calendar with your personal Google, Microsoft Outlook, or Apple calendar. Updates made to events in your Church calendar will be reflected in the sync'd calendar.

To setup your phone, tablet, or computer, go to LDS.org, Church Calendar, Sync, select the type of calendar you use (Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, or Apple Calendar), and follow the instructions.

This has the advantage as items are added, deleted, and modified on the ward and stake calendar, they are instantly updated on your personal calendar. LDS Tools has the drawback that: 1) it is only synchronized every 30 days, unless the user manually synchronizes it; 2) it is not integrated with your personal calendar for viewing on one screen; and, 3) the web links listed in some of the calendar events can be directly clicked on to open the web page from the event in your personal calendar, but not in LDS Tools.

Monument Ward Bishopric

On Sunday, March 10th, the following changes took place in the Monument Ward:

• Aaron Bloomfield was released as first counselor and Jeff Murrow as second counselor in the Monument Ward bishopric.
• Jeff Murrow was called and sustained as first counselor and Trace Patterson as second counselor in the Monument Ward bishopric.

2018 Annual Histories Due by March 1st

Dear Ward Clerks, Ward Councils, and Stake Council,

It is that time of year to submit your 2018 Ward History which will be compiled into the 2018 Stake History.

Please submit your ward organization's history to your ward clerk (or ward history specialist, if you have one), and required documents, in enough time for the ward clerk (and/or ward history specialist) to the stake clerk no later than March 1st. For the stake organizations, please submit your organization's history for 2018 to the stake clerk no later than February 15th.

Highlight what you feel was important and are inspired to include. There were a lot of changes in leadership and several big events worth talking about. You may need to reach back to ward leaders that were in ward leadership callings earlier in the calendar year.

Purpose

• Preparing and submitting an annual history helps fulfill the Lord’s charge: “Continue in writing and making a history of all the important things…concerning my church…And also, my servants who are abroad in the earth should send forth the accounts of their stewardships” (Doctrine and Covenants 69:3,5)

Process

• Use the checklist below to guide your efforts.
• Please submit your history in Microsoft Word file format
• There are several required documents that are easier to create / scan as a PDF. Send me those PDFs and indicate in the Word document where you want me to combine them.
• Recommend a 6-12 pages per ward. A few more or a few less will be fine (if you have over 20 pages you’ll need to scale back a bit).
• Pictures are encouraged to help tell your ward/organization's history. All owners of included pictures must fill out the permission form and submit with your history.

Checklist: What to Include in an Annual History

• Cover sheet
• A brief narrative describing the year’s important events and developments. Include faith-building stories most likely written by your ward clerk or assigned ward history specialist.
• Ward Calendar. Use some judgment on this one. If you can set the filters appropriately on the shared calendar from LDS.org to just show what you want for your Ward (and turn it into a PDF) go for it. Otherwise, suggest you just type it out (see example in template). You’ll have more control and It will probably be faster in the long run.
• Officer’s sustained forms read at Ward conference will be provided by the ward clerk.
• Reports from priesthood and auxiliary leaders summarizing their efforts to help individuals and families qualify for exaltation. For example, a bishop may identify a few goals for the Ward early in the year and then invite the Ward Council to contribute stories and photographs giving details on how each organization worked to achieve these goals.
• Significant records created by or about the unit, such as:
  • Photographs that are clearly identified and dated (see example in template)
  • Newsletters
  • Special programs and publications
  • Photocopies of newspaper clippings (include information that will identify the newspaper and the date it was published)
  • NOTE: CONFIDENTIAL OR PRIVATE INFORMATION IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ANNUAL HISTORY

Don’t worry so much about the format. Just send me the info / stories, and the pictures / forms, and I’ll get it combined into a nice clean report for you to review before it is submitted to church headquarters.

Membership Related

• Updated LCR to support the age-group progression changes that were announced by the First Presidency on December 14, 2018. On January 1, 2019:
  • Aaronic Priesthood ordinations can be recorded based on the new age guidelines.
  • Limited-use temple recommends can be issued for young women and ordained young men who will turn 12 during the year.
  • Youth will be assigned to Sunday School classes, Young Women classes, and Aaronic Priesthood quorums based on the new guidelines. These guidelines direct that children and youth are assigned to a class or quorum based upon the year they turn a certain age. The Valiant 11 Primary class will be discontinued, and the Course 11 Sunday School class will be available.
  • Leaders can record ministering assignments for 13-year-old youth in Mia Maid classes and teachers quorums.
  • For more information, see childrenandyouth.lds.org.
• Updated the ward and branch version of the Officers Sustained form.
  • During ward conference, all members with callings listed on the form are now sustained in sacrament meeting.
  • Removed instructions to sustain certain callings in quorums and classes during ward conference.
  • Please note that outside of ward conference, leaders should continue to follow the instructions for sustaining members in Handbook 2: Administering the Church and the October 11, 2018, notice, “Sustaining Those Serving in Relief Society and Elders Quorum Callings.”
