Announcements should be communicated to members prior to Sunday so they do not take time in sacrament meeting, quorums, or classes; the bishopric may emphasize essential announcements briefly before the opening hymn (see Handbook 2, 18.2.2).

From Elder Quentin L. Cook's general conference talk Deep and Lasting Conversion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (after President Nelson's two-hour meeting block announcement), "To help members prepare for the Sabbath, some wards already send an informative email, text, or social media message midweek. In view of this adjustment, we strongly recommend this type of communication. These invitations will remind the members of the Sunday meeting schedule for that week, including the upcoming class lesson topic, and support continuing gospel conversation at home."

1. New Temple Baptistry Hours for 2020
   • Outlined below are the hours for the baptistry beginning January 2, 2020. Please pass this information ward leaders, youth and families.
   • There are staffing needs with regard to the new baptistry hours next year. These 3 hour shift shifts are from 9am to 12pm and 12pm to 3pm Tuesday through Friday.
   • Beginning January 2, 2020 the Denver Temple baptistry will open daily as follows:
     • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
       • 9am-3pm: Walk-in or appointment (groups of 10 or less)
       • 3pm-6pm: Walk-in only, no appointments
       • 6pm-9pm: Ward/Branch appointments (Tues, Wed, Thur)
       • 6pm-9pm: Family Priority appointments (Friday)
     • Saturday
       • 7am-10am: Family Priority appointments
       • 10am-4pm: Ward/Branch appointments

Leader and Clerk Resources Updates on 2 January 2020 -- ** NEW **

On January 2, 2020, Leader and Clerk Resources will be updated with the following changes:

Sacrament meeting attendance:

As announced by the Office of the Presiding Bishopric on November 1, 2019, beginning January 1, 2020, ward and branch clerks should begin counting sacrament meeting attendance each week and recording it in Leader and Clerk Resources. This can be done by selecting "Sacrament Meeting Attendance" under the Reports menu. The ability to record sacrament meeting attendance using the Member Tools application will be available in the coming weeks.

Aaronic Priesthood:

To support the Aaronic Priesthood organization changes announced in General Conference, the ward Young Men organization and those called to the Young Men Presidency are being removed. Those currently called as Advisers will remain in that calling. Those currently called as Assistant Quorum Advisers will become Quorum Specialists. After January 2, 2020, please review the adult leader callings within the Aaronic Priesthood organization and make any necessary updates. If you have already recorded Specialists as custom callings, you will need to delete those entries and record them using the standard Specialist calling. Individuals in custom callings will not have access to needed functionality in Leader and Clerk Resources and Member Tools.

2019 Annual Ward and Stake Organization Histories - FINAL Due January 15th

Dear Ward Clerks, Ward Councils, Stake Council, and Stake Leaders,

It is that time of year to submit your 2019 Ward History which will be compiled into the 2019 Stake History.

Ward leaders, please submit your ward organization's FINAL history to your ward clerk (or ward history specialist, if you have one), in enough time for the ward clerk (and/or ward history specialist) to the stake clerk no later than January 15th.

Stake leaders, please submit your organization's DRAFT history for 2019 to the stake clerk by this same deadline.

Highlight what you feel was important and are inspired to include. If you are new to your calling during this year, you can reach out to the leaders that were serving this year to include their contributions to this write-up..

• Preparing and submitting an annual history helps fulfill the Lord’s charge: “Continue in writing and making a history of all the important things…concerning my church…And also, my servants who are abroad in the earth should send forth the accounts of their stewardships” (Doctrine and Covenants 69:3,5)

• Annual History Suggestions for Bishops

Process

• Use the checklist below to guide your efforts.
• Please submit your history in Microsoft Word file format
• There are several required documents that are easier to create / scan as a PDF. Send me those PDFs and indicate in the Word document where you want me to combine them.
• Recommend a 6-15 pages per ward.
• Pictures are encouraged to help tell your ward/organization's history. All owners of included pictures must fill out the permission form and submit with your history.

Checklist: What to Include in an Annual History

• Cover sheet
• A brief narrative describing the year’s important events and developments. Include faith-building stories most likely written by your ward clerk or assigned ward history specialist.
• Ward Calendar. Use some judgment on this one. If you can set the filters appropriately on the shared calendar from churchofjesuschrist.org to just show what you want for your Ward (and turn it into a PDF) go for it. Otherwise, suggest you just type it out (see example in template). You’ll have more control and It will probably be faster in the long run.
• Officer’s sustained forms read at Ward conference will be provided by the ward clerk.
• Reports from priesthood and organization leaders summarizing their efforts to help individuals and families qualify for exaltation. For example, a bishop may identify a few goals for the Ward early in the year and then invite the Ward Council to contribute stories and photographs giving details on how each organization worked to achieve these goals.
• Significant records created by or about the unit, such as:
• Photographs that are clearly identified and dated (see example in template)
• Newsletters
• Special programs and publications
• Photocopies of newspaper clippings (include information that will identify the newspaper and the date it was published)
• NOTE: CONFIDENTIAL OR PRIVATE INFORMATION IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ANNUAL HISTORY

Don’t worry so much about the format. Just send me the info / stories, and the pictures / forms, and I’ll get it combined into a nice clean report for you to review before it is submitted to church headquarters.

Member Tools App Release Notes

• Provided access to local unit statistics for members of the stake council.
• Removed the need to use hyphens when searching by phone number.
• Added the ability to search by email address.
• Added numerous latitude and longitude enhancements, including:
  • Ability to get directions to a member’s household location from current location.
  • Ability for members to map their household location.
  • Ability to copy latitude and longitude.

• Resolved issues with spaces in password.
• Resolved problems encountered when entering long phone numbers.

• Enhanced the process of recording a membership record for a spouse or child that is not a member of the Church but is recorded as a linked record tied to a family member.
  • Laurel, Mia Maid, and Beehive classes will be discontinued. Units can now create classes in age groups to meet local needs.
  • “Specialist” is a new calling that was introduced.

Personal Calendar: Synchronize your personal calendar with ward and stake calendar events

You can automatically synchronize the events from your ward and stake calendar with your personal Google, Microsoft Outlook, or Apple calendar. Updates made to events in your Church calendar will be reflected in the sync'd calendar.

To setup your phone, tablet, or computer, go to LDS.org, Church Calendar, Sync, select the type of calendar you use (Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, or Apple Calendar), and follow the instructions.

This has the advantage as items are added, deleted, and modified on the ward and stake calendar, they are instantly updated on your personal calendar.

• The Member Tools app has the drawback that:
  1. it is only synchronized every 30 days, unless the user manually synchronizes it
  2. it is not integrated with your personal calendar for viewing on one screen
  3. the web links listed in some of the calendar events can be directly clicked on to open the web page from the event in your personal calendar, but not in the Member Tools app.

  • On February 23, 2020, the Church will broadcast a Face to Face event for youth with President and Sister Oaks. The event will focus on the new Children and Youth program.
• Notice, 15 December 2019: Preparing Annual Tithing Reports
  • Instructions for bishops, ward clerks, stake presidents, and stake clerks.)
• Notice, 13 December 2019: January 2020 Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults
  • Includes the worldwide broadcast schedule for the Church satellite system and other media. Speakers: Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Sister Katherine Christofferson.
• Notice, 1 November 2019: Recording Sacrament Meeting Attendance
  • Beginning on January 1, 2020, ward and branch clerks will begin counting sacrament meeting attendance each week and will record it electronically using Church record-keeping tools.

  • We announce adjustments to support young men and young women at church—specifically in Aaronic Priesthood quorums and Young Women classes. These adjustments will be accompanied by the organizational changes detailed in the enclosed information.
