Dear Sisters and Brothers,
With the recent celebration of Father’s Day and as I have had the opportunity to reflect on the life of both my mother and my father, who are approaching their 70th wedding anniversary, I was reminded of a story that I read many years ago from the New Era. It spoke of a young man who lived in a one-bedroom apartment with his family. Due to the limited space, he slept on the couch in the living room. His father, a steelworker, would leave home very early for work each day. Every morning, prior to leaving for work, this father would walk by the bed (couch) of his son. He would tuck the covers around his son and then stop for just a minute. This young man would sense his father standing beside the couch almost every morning. As he frequently would awaken, he would pretend to stay asleep. Over time he became aware that as his father stopped and stood beside his bed, that he was praying. Each morning this young man’s father prayed for his son. He prayed that he would have a good day, that he would be safe, that he would learn and prepare for the future. And since this father would not return until late into the evening, he prayed for the teachers and friends that his son would be with that day.
At first this young man did not really understand what his father was doing those mornings when he prayed for him. But as he got older, he came to sense his love and interest in what he was doing. It wasn’t until many years later, after this young man was married and had his own children, that he understood completely how his father felt about him and the reason he stopped each day to pray. It is now one of his favorite memories.
Today, our American society seems fundamentally divided and even ambivalent about fatherhood and Father’s Day. Some people do not even remember it. Others are offended by it. Still others neglect it or disdain it. Yet many others are not especially opposed to it, nor are they especially committed to it.
As a Church, we believe in fathers. We believe in the ideal of the man who puts his God and his family first. We believe that by divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. We believe that in their complementary family duties, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. We believe that far from being unnecessary, fathers are unique and irreplaceable.
Though fatherhood requires sacrifice, it is a source of incomparable satisfaction and joy. For many of us, fatherhood exposes our own weaknesses and our need to improve. Our ultimate model is our Heavenly Father, who so loved each one of us, His spirit children, that He gave us His Only Begotten Son for our salvation and exaltation. Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) Fathers manifest their love as they lay down their lives day by day, laboring in the service and support of their families.
Now, some brethren are single fathers, foster fathers, or even stepfathers. Many of you strive mightily and do your very best in an often-difficult role. We honor you who do all that can be done in love, patience, and self-sacrifice to meet individual and family needs. It should be noted that God Himself entrusted His Only Begotten Son to a foster father. Surely some of the credit goes to Joseph for the fact that as Jesus grew, He “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Regrettably, due to death, abandonment, or divorce, some children and mothers don’t have husbands or fathers living with them. Some may have fathers who are physically present but emotionally absent or in other ways inattentive or non-supportive. We invite all fathers to do better and to be better. To the children whose family situation is troubled, we remind you that the challenges you face are, at times, an indication of the Lord’s trust in you. He can help you, directly and through others, to deal with what you face. You can become the generation…the father or mother, perhaps the first in your family…where the divine patterns that God has ordained take shape and bless the generations after you.
Brethren of our stake, we know you wish you were a more perfect father. We know we wish we were too. Even so, despite our limitations, may we press on. May we think first of the happiness and well-being of others, especially for our wife and our children. May we love the mother of our children more and may we show that love in all that we do. In doing so, we will reaffirm and strengthen our marriage, the very foundation of family life and our security. The most essential work that you will do is the turning of the hearts of your children to their Heavenly Father. If by your example, as well as your words, you can demonstrate what faithfulness to God looks like in day-to-day living, then you will have given your children the key to peace in this life and in the world to come, we testify, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Most announcements should be electronically distributed weekly prior to Sunday so they do not take time in sacrament meeting; the bishopric may give essential announcements briefly before the opening hymn (see General Handbook 29.2.2.2).
From Elder Quentin L. Cook's general conference talk Deep and Lasting Conversion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (after President Nelson's two-hour meeting block announcement), "To help members prepare for the Sabbath, some wards already send an informative email, text, or social media message midweek. In view of this adjustment, we strongly recommend this type of communication. These invitations will remind the members of the Sunday meeting schedule for that week, including the upcoming class lesson topic, and support continuing gospel conversation at home."
All are invited to a special worldwide broadcast focused on sharing the gospel through the principles of love, share, and invite. This broadcast will help all leaders who have responsibility for sharing the gospel learn to do so in ways that are natural, sincere, and joyful.

Effective January 1, 2021, local unit leaders and clerks should record stake conference, sacrament meeting, and Sunday quorum and class meeting attendance (excluding Primary) in Leader and Clerk Resources or Member Tools.
As a reminder, effective January 1, 2021, local unit leaders and clerks have been asked to record stake conference, sacrament meeting, and Sunday quorum and class meeting attendance (excluding Primary) in Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) or Member Tools, including both number of members who attend in person and the number of those who attend remotely. (See Official Communication dated February 10, 2021 – 2021 Guidelines for Recording Attendance in Stake Conferences, Sacrament Meetings, and Sunday Quorum and Class Meetings)
Attendance recorded will be reflected, as follows, on your Quarterly Report in LCR:
Sacrament meeting attendance – Average of the first three months of recorded attendance.
Sunday quorum and class meeting attendance (excluding Primary) – Average recorded attendance in March.
Primary attendance will be calculated using historical unit reported attendance.
Please note this information cannot be changed on the Quarterly Report page in LCR. Any changes would need to be made on the “Class and Quorum Attendance” or “Sacrament Meeting Attendance” reports in LCR for the first quarter of 2021.
Many bishops’ offices, clerks’ offices, and meetinghouse resource centers contain excess and outdated materials. In considering what to discard, please refer to the list of meetinghouse resource center materials and guidelines on what to discard. Please also consider the following:
With the introduction of Come, Follow Me, many manuals have been replaced, including Primary 1–7, Gospel Doctrine, and youth Sunday School manuals.
The new Children and Youth program has replaced materials associated with Scouting, Duty to God, Personal Progress, and Faith in God.
Online processes in Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) have replaced most administrative forms.
Clerks and resource center specialists should identify materials that are not being used regularly or that will not be used again and discard them or offer them to members for use at home. Clerks can also shred outdated stationery, forms, or sensitive materials.
To schedule an interview with a member of the stake presidency for temple recommends or BYU ecclesiastical endorsements send an email to stake.interview@csnorth.org or text/call 719-644-6401

Stake presidency interviews are not to be scheduled until after the bishopric interview is completed
Stake interviews are usually scheduled within a week of their request and should be completed within 30 days of the bishopric interview
